All the practices that an individual does to keep his body clean and healthy are defined as personal hygiene. Hygiene practices are at the forefront of personel protective measures in the prevention of diseases. Some simple measures that a person will take individually will help him or her lead healthier life. The person is constantly under the influence of external pollutants and touches many polluting factors in the external environment with his hand. Human skin forms a protective barrier against external pollutants up to a certain level. However, cracks and wounds on the skin can cause some disease factors to enter the body.
Hand cleaning is an easy, effective, and cost-effective method to prevent diseases. Studies show that handwashing prevents many infectious diseases. In a study, it is stated that poor hand hygiene and inadequate handwashing cause 1 million digestive system diseases, 60 thousand hospitalized treatment, 3 thousand Shigella, 10 thousand Hepatitis-A cases, and 250 deaths in a year. For this reason, hand cleaning is the first step of individual hygiene in terms of protecting and improving public health.
