3-9 September Public Health Week
Public health provides physical and mental health to individuals through community-based studies, improving environmental health conditions, increasing health literacy, and disease awareness of individuals living in society through education, prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases, early recognition and treatment of diseases, health and social institutions. It is a branch of science and an art that aims to provide a sustainable level of life that will protect one's health, prolong life and increase working power.
To emphasize on the importance of public health and preventive health services in our country, 3-9 September is celebrated as 'Public Health Week' every year. Preventing the occurrence of diseases and increasing the quality of life by increasing public awareness with preventive health services are the main areas of concern of public health.
Within the scope of preventive health services, it is aimed to raise the awareness of the public for regular physical activity (exercise, sports, etc.) to protect and improve health, to have a healthy and balanced diet and to fight obesity. Public health experts develop policies and produce solutions in order to determine the current health level of the society and the problems that may arise, the underlying causes of these problems and the health needs of the society, using scientific techniques. It also aims to develop and maintain public health studies by following the implementation of public health programs.
