The Report of The Fifth Turkish Medical World Congress: The Joint Meeting of The Ministry of Health of Turkey, TUSEB and WHO Regional Office for Europe on the Prevention, Control and Management of NCDs.
The Fifth Turkish Medical World Congress, organized in cooperation with the Turkish Ministry of Health, World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe (WHO-Europe) and Turkey Health Institutes, Institute of Public Health and Chronic Diseases (TÜSEB-TÜHKE), was held between 27-29 October 2018 at the Intercontinental Conference. It was held in Intercontinental Istanbul Hotel under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Potential approaches to chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs, ie obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, cancer, etc.) and their risk factors were discussed at the congress. NCDs, which have a rising trend all over the world, not only create a significant burden on the national health budgets of countries in terms of disease management and treatment due to their long duration, but also cause great financial losses and premature death of individuals with the disease due to decreased efficiency and productivity.
The goals of preventing these diseases, minimizing risk factors (diet, physical activity, tobacco, alcohol, etc.), improving the treatment of existing patients and starting certain studies in cooperation with WHO-Europe were discussed in this congress.
Approximately 500 people attended the congress, which included local and foreign participants, patent holders and award holders, managers/researchers from universities, hospitals and technoparks, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Health and other relevant institutions, and WHO-European members, who carry out successful works in the field of health worldwide and nationally.
Within the scope of this organization, the Second Aziz Sancar Science Award and TUSEB Incentive Awards ceremony were held on October 29, Republic Day, and the winning scientists were presented their awards.
