Treatment of Severe Obesity Project Meeting Report Conducted in Partnership with TUSEB - TUHKE, Yeditepe University and Istanbul University

The third meeting of the joint project initiated on severe obesity between the Health Institutes of Turkey - The Institute of Public Health and Chronic Diseases (TUSEB - TUHKE), Yeditepe University Genetics and Bioengineering Department, Yeditepe Specialized Hospital, and Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine was held on 21 November 2019 at TUSEB İstanbul, Koşuyolu campus. The representatives of the stakeholder institutions of the project, faculty members, and other researchers attended the meeting. The feasibility of the planned joint clinical study on obesity; Specifically, the purpose of the study, protocol design, sample size, and primary outcomes were discussed. At the meeting, the inclusion and exclusion criteria of severely obese individuals for the study were determined.

The aforementioned clinical study aims to determine the best protocols for the preparation and care periods before and after bariatric surgery, which are known to provide therapeutic effects in the treatment of severe obesity, and enlighten the mechanism behind weight regain after bariatric surgery and how to prevent it.
