Workshop on the Management of Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease in Turkey and Preparing Guidelines for the Diagnosis, Treatment and Follow-up of Patients with COPD
TUHKE's vision is to establish a working group for each disease with the participation of all relevant stakeholders, under the coordination of TÜSEB Turkey Public Health and Chronic Diseases Institute (TÜHKE), in order to determine national diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up standards in chronic non-communicable diseases, and the division of labor to be made by the working groups. Within the framework of the disease, both the preparation of the status report on the disease and the creation of cascaded diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up algorithms are required.
In this framework, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), which is the third leading cause of mortality among non-communicable diseases, was determined as the first disease. On 06 December 2019, 'The Management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in Turkey and Guideline Development Workshop' was held at our TUSEB Koşuyolu Campus. Representatives from the Turkish Thoracic Society, the Turkish Respiratory Research Association, the Lung Health and Intensive Care Association, the Turkish Internal Diseases Association, the Turkish Federation of Family Physicians Associations, and the Family Physicians Association, as well as TUHKE's experts and researchers, attended the meeting. In addition, representatives from the relevant units of the Ministry of Health and the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, the General Directorate of Public Hospitals, and the General Directorate of Health Promotion participated.
The meeting was moderated by a member of the TUHKE Scientific Committee professor Feyza Erkan MD and the Head of the Institute of Public Health and Chronic Disease professor Ilhan Satman MD.

At the end of the meeting, the groups presented their roadmaps and possible deadlines for their final reports (January 15, 2020). After this date, it was decided to hold another half-day meeting to give the final shape to the report and algorithms. In addition, it was stated by all groups that a field study should be conducted on COPD risk factors, diagnosis frequency, and treatment compliance in Turkey, and it was expressed that this should be funded by TUSEB.
